What's Bruin? by Daniel Smith

"In my youth, I spent a great deal of time camping near the boundary waters of Minnesota. It was common to have encounters with black bears while camping. Black bears are very opportunistic and seem to know the location of campsites, which are not too difficult to locate, especially when the aromas of meals cooking over open fires fill the air. Under normal circumstances, the bears are harmless and only seek a handout or a chance to burglarize food packs. The bear in this painting is of formidable size and may have more than surprised the lone camper." - Daniel Smith.
