Stones That Speak by western artist Howard Terpning
Stones That Speak by Howard Terpning
The Crows in particular were known as great trackers. Here the leader of a party finds a turned-over stone which provides mute evidence of earlier passage. Indian trackers could read much into the turned stone, the broken twig, the crushed leaves of grass.
This painting demonstrates the artist's liking for contrasting areas of darkness and light. It won him his frist Gold Medal at Oklahoma City's National Academy of Western Art Show in 1980.
Print released 1980 (first image released by his long time publisher Greenwich Workshop)
