Down Mexico Way - stucco house and mule by artist George Hallmark
Down Mexico Way - by George Hallmark, available from Prickly Pear Galleries.
All along the back roads of Mexico and central America, great little houses like this are found.. While George Hallmark enjoys painting ornate churches and busy street scenes, his favorite subjects tend to be simple. A few rooms with a roof over your head, transportation at hand and food on the table. Don't all of us somehow dream of getting back to a life like that? While working on the piece, the artist began humming an old song that Gene Autry recorded in 1939: "South of the Border, Down Mexico Way".
Released October 2011.
