New Doll For My Granddaughter by western artist Howard Terpning

New Doll For My Granddaughter by western artist Howard Terpning available from Prickly Pear Galleries.

While the lifestyle of buffalo-hunting tribes of the Great Plains revolved around the dangerous and risky male pursuits of warfare and hunting, women played significant roles in the domestic and ceremonial life of the tribe. Inspired by the artist’s love of his own granddaughters, this elegant portrait of a devoted grandmother gracefully conveys that deep affection we see this emotion in the grandmother’s intent expression as she puts the final loving touches on the doll, made in the traditional style of the hide dress, with a miniature tack belt and an awl case at the waist.
