Twilight's Calling by Daniel Smith

"If you have ever heard the haunting call of the common loon at dusk, no doubt it has remained etched in your memory. As a youth, I spent many summers canoeing in the boundary waters of northern Minnesota. The loon has been the one and only bird that exemplifies the vast beauty of the glacial shield wilderness in North America. It's easy to understand how the common loon has become one of the most popular subjects of the wildlife genre.

"In Twilight's Calling, I tried to convey an intimate view of two loons breaking the tranquil waters of a northern lake at dusk. The biggest challenge in this painting became capturing the dancing, reflected sunlight on the loons' trailing wake." - Daniel Smith.
