Light of Dawn - Common Loons by Daniel Smith

"The common loon has existed since before the dawn of civilizatiion - an enduring almost mystical, symbol of the northern wilderness. It has survived longer than any other flying bird species presently living on earth, approximately 60 million years. Throughout this incredible span of time, it is manh who now poses the greatest threat to their existence. I was first attracted to this landscape by the magnificent rock ledge. I was particularly drawn by the contrasts of warm versus cool light and the rough textures of rock juxtaposing the glassy water. I wanted to create a sense of timelessness. To enhance the mood and simplify the landscape, I added mist rising from the water." - Daniel Smith.
