Early Snow - Elk by Daniel Smith

Early Snow by Daniel Smith.

Elk are a common sight from Daniel Smith's mountain home. During the annual rut in southwest Montana, the haunting cry of the bull elk can be heard in the predawn hours.
Bull elk can lose more than 100 lbs. defending their harems from other males, and an early snowfall in the high country makes browsing for vegetation more difficult.
Smith placed this bull near the summit to emphasize his hard-fought status. The mountains in the distance serve as silent witnesses to this timeless ritual - the ancient struggle for domination vital to the survival of the species.
