Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this particular work is the foreground presence of - of all things - a golf ball. Although seemingly out of place, Marris included it for a very specific reason.

"I have a friend who is a caretaker at a resort up north," Marris explains, "and she used to see a fox on the golf course every night. When she finally found its den and looked inside, it was full of golf balls. To me, this golf ball represents our influence on the natural world, both knowing and unknowing. Any litter is dangerous to animals, but I thought it would be better to show it here in a humourous, constructive way - to show that there is a collaboration here. Everything we do has an effect on the world around us."
