Shore Birds at Point Lobos by William Phillips

The Blue Angels sweep past Cedar Point in an echelon right formation. Known as the "Ambassadors of Goodwill," they are the United States Navy's flight demonstration team. Formed in 1946, the Blues gave their first demonstration on June 15 and today, they are still thrilling crowds with their skill and talent.

As the title of this painting implies, the Blue Angels - although carrier qualified - spend their tour with the team ashore. Like the shore birds, they are associated with the sea and land alike. Shore birds also fly very close to the ground and can be seen at any time skimming along just above the sand or surf.
