"It's autumn at the edge of a beaver dam site in Central Ontario's Algonquin Park, I wanted to paint an animal which suited both the location and the lighting. I realized that a black bear would be challenging and appropriate. You're dealing with an animal that is totally black, so the only character or definition you can bring to it is reflective light or sunlight. If you place him in the sunlight at just the right angle, you see all these colors you wouldn't normally see." - Brent Townsend.
