Comanche Spoilers by Howard Terpning
Comanche Spoilers by Howard Terpning.
In 1840 Comanche chief Buffalo Hump led a thousand of his people on a long raid all the way to the Texas Gulf Coast. After sacking the small port town of Linnville, the Indians began a festive retreat in a colorful display of ribbons, umbrellas, and bolts of cloth. Driving a vast herd of captured horses and mules, they also carried along several women and children prisoners. Their victory shattered into chaos at Plum Creek, near present-day Lockhart, where vengeful Texas volunteers routed them with heavy losses. (The Art of Howard Terpning - Elmer Kelton).
