Bugles and Trumpets! - Elk and swans by wildlife artist Bonnie Marris

Bugles and Trumpets! by Bonnie Marris
 Cervus canadensis  and  Cygnus buccinator

Reflections of early morning sunlight suggest a new dawning for Yellowstone Park. In the aftermath of the 1988 Yellowstone fire, Bonnie Marris began a series of works evoking her sense of personal renewal in the amazing rebirth of the park. A previous work, "New Beginnings," showed buffalo grazing peacefully against distant flames and portrayed the artist's newfound philosophy of acceptance, balance and regeneration.

"To me, the elk and trumpeter swan are symbols of the strength and endurance of Yellowstone. Both animals have found a safe, generous haven in the park's new grown-meadows.

"The great Yellowstone fire left a deep impact on all forms of life there. Many animals lost their lives and huge trees and hillsides were torched. In September, a gift of snow drifted from the skies and the smoke cleared and renewal began - I feel both in the park and in me. 'Bugles and Trumpets!' signals the promised return of life." - Bonnie Marris.
