Wolf Study by Carl Brenders
Canis lupus
"Between paintings, I often do pencil drawings, mostly with the intention of only doing sketches as a way to put down my ideas for paintings on paper. My character, however, doesn't allow me to stop with a sketch; I go ahead until it becomes a finished pencil drawing. This is the only way I can be happy with the result.
"This standing wolf will probably appear in one of my future paintings, in the company of some pack members. Creating a painting can be a long process, and these pencil drawings are sometimes the basis for a new painting.
"For me, the black and white medium is a nice alternative to working with color. I find it most enjoyable creating volumes, forms and textures with these two values." - Carl Brenders.
Print released 1990.
