"Painting endangered species gives one a very special feeling...Fortunately the trumpeter swan made a successful return to Yellowstone, and it seems to do well there now. Every time I have gone to the area for fieldwork, I have seen many of them - mostly in the remote wetlands, but sometimes close to the main road. The best sightings were while hiking - coming upon an isolated pond in a forest where a few resting swans were cleaning their feathers. One such moment is captured in this painting.- Carl Brenders from his book"Wildlife" (1994).
