"The major challenge in creating this painting was to show an animal as ominous as a black leopard portraying maternal warmth without detracting from its sinister air. Black leopards are a melanistic color phase of the leopard species. They appear mostly in the Asian variety mainly because its habitat on that continent consists of much more rain forest than does that of its African counterpart. The sheen on a black leopard is much different from the regular leopard." - Guy Coheleach.
