Up From Lajitas Crossing

Up From Lajitas Crossing by Ragan Gennusa

On the western outskirts of Big Bend National Park, Lajitas, Texas, and its Mexican counterpart, Paso Lajitas, Chihuahua, perch on hills above the Rio Grande. In the 1800s, the Comanches used this area as a passage for their tribal life. This included leading horses they had captured, as a couple braves are doing in this image. Mining brought more people to the area and it became a trading post for cowboys, miners, and local settlers.  Released November 2014.
